Women veterinary paraprofessionals are a critical channel to reach women smallholder farmers. Women make up 60% of poor smallholder livestock farmers and are therefore a key target group for last mile animal health services. Gender-sensitive programming is an essential part of our model. This model will be piloted in Uganda, South Africa and Nigeria. This approach aims to deliver and evaluate a model for sustainable Veterinary Paraprofessionals in which competency acquisition is a gateway to recognition and increases access to new business opportunities in the last mile delivery of animal health services. Our approach aims to reinforce veterinary service provision systems through improved capacity of Veterinary Paraprofessionals to deliver animal health services, as well as address some of the historic challenges propagating Veterinary Paraprofessional business instability and overreliance on public initiatives.
